Happy Independence Day, Argentina! On this 9 de Julio, the people turned out for a good old-fashioned parade, with all the usual stuff - marching bands, uniformed soldiers and policemen with machine guns, bazookas, rocket-propelled grenade launchers, attack dogs, tanks, frog boats, helicopters and jets flying in formation - your regular, everyday, hometown celebration of freedom. It was just what I needed after a stroll through the serene Japanese gardens, the Jardín Japonés.
I don’t usually go for gnocchi, but was feeling lucky today, and maybe emboldened by the display of raw firepower, or possibly the Cocoa Puffs at breakfast. Tried a lamb empanada, and tomatoes stuffed with spinach. Then bought myself a bottle of Malbec to take home.
